Verified release · product boundaries · labels

Know what you can sell from home.

Check the candy and confections category against Ohio’s cottage-food pathway, see the conditions that still need attention, and follow the official source before you print a label or book a market stall. Only cells that passed the 0.80 evidence gate appear in this public release.

What this site answers

One task, three steps.

  1. Is my product category covered in my state?
  2. What permits, training, labels, and channels apply?
  3. Which official page should I verify next?

Research date: 18 October 2026

This is a screening tool, not a permit or legal opinion. State rules change; always confirm the linked official source.

Start with the task

Three tools for the first real decision

Everything runs in your browser. No account, upload, or server-side storage is required.

Research preview tools. The three browser tools remain noindex previews until their channel, checklist, and label data pass the same evidence gate as the public state and product pages.
Verified scope

Start with the verified state

Only the state and category cells that passed the 0.80 review gate are published here. Additional state guides remain in the noindex research preview until their evidence review is complete.

9 additional state guides are in research preview. They are excluded from search engines, advertising, and the public sitemap until their evidence review is complete.
What is in scope

Verified product category

The public release deliberately excludes meat, seafood, low-acid canning, fermentation, alcohol, and products that need refrigeration. Categories that have not passed the review gate remain in the preview.

Common questions

Before you rely on a state rule

What is cottage food?

Cottage food generally means food made in a home kitchen and sold under a state's limited home-food pathway. The rules, product lists, permits, labels, and sales limits vary by state.

Does Cottage Food Path approve my business?

No. Cottage Food Path screens a product category against a researched rule matrix and links to official sources. It does not issue permits, certify labels, or provide legal or food-safety advice.

Why do some results say not verified?

Some combinations are not clearly supported by the reviewed official material. The tool keeps those cells as not verified instead of guessing that a product is allowed.

Can I sell across state lines?

Interstate sales are outside this first-release screening tool. State cottage-food pathways often stop at the state border, and federal requirements may also apply.

Initial public release: ohio-candy-verified-2026-10-18. Only Ohio / candy and confections passed the 0.80 evidence gate. Other states and categories remain in a noindex research preview. A screening result is not a permit, certification, or legal opinion.
