About the project

A clearer first step for home food businesses.

Cottage Food Path organizes state rules, product boundaries, labels, and startup steps into one readable path. The goal is to help a first-time producer ask the regulator a better question—not to replace the regulator.

Who publishes this site

Cottage Food Path is an independent research publication. Editorial responsibility rests with the Cottage Food Path Editorial Team. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any state agency. The team is responsible for source selection, claim review, corrections, and update dates.

Contact: hello@cottagefoodpath.com. Read the verification methodology and the corrections and review log.

What the site currently covers

Cottage Food Path currently publishes Ohio and the Candy and confections category. A state and category combination is presented as a conclusion only after it has been checked against official sources. Other combinations remain under review.

What it does not do

Editorial stance

When the evidence is thin, the site should say so. A cautious “not verified” result is more useful than an invented green light. The public Ohio guide is checked against official sources; the linked regulator page and your exact recipe, process, label, and sales channel remain controlling.

We publish narrowly. Read the editorial policy for our source, review, and correction rules.
